CDOM in Florida Bay
The South Florida Water Management District is using a WET Labs WETStar fluorometer to measure the distribution and effects of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in Florida Bay.
Yellow box: Detailed study site of CDOM sources to Florida Bay.
Left yellow dot: Meso-to-eutrophic Rankin Lake; chlorophyll levels of 10–40 µg/l.
Right yellow dot: oligotrophic Duck Key, chlorophyll levels of < 5 µg/l.

These parameters were mapped simultaneously at high speed using a Dataflow ultra-resolution (10 m) spatial mapping system.
Helicopter transects from the C111 canal through the Everglades Panhandle
wetlands and the mangrove transition zone to Florida Bay, measuring CDOM
using instantaneous in vivo fluorometry. Dark line shows relative elevation.
0: Presence of phytoplankton dramatically increases the CDOM uptake. High
light also increases uptake.
10: Dosed treatment shows uptake rates including dark uptake. The addition of
CDOM apparently stimulated both autotrophic and heterotrophic uptake of DOM significantly.
Filt: Filtered water column with only microbial and photodegradation processes.
